The South Ossetian Defense Ministry delegation took part in the celebrations in Abkhazia

A delegation of the South Ossetian Defense Ministry, headed by Acting Defense Minister, Colonel Inal Sabanov, took part in the celebrations in honor of Victory Day and Independence of Abkhazia, the Defense Ministry's press service reported.

"Inal Sabanov, accompanied by representatives of the Ministry, took part in the ceremony of laying flowers at the memorial to those killed in the Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia in the Park of Glory in Sukhum and attended the military parade dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the Victory," the press service said.

The Ministry has noted that representatives of the defense department also honored the memory of the first President of Abkhazia Vladislav Ardzinba in the Lower Eshera and the second President of Abkhazia Sergei Bagapsh in his native village of Dzhgarda.

The Victory and Independence Day is celebrated annually in Abkhazia on September 30. On this day in 1993, the Abkhaz army reached the Ingur River - the state border with Georgia, where it hoisted the Abkhaz flag. Abkhazia restored its freedom and independence.

The memorial events are attended by President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania, the heads of state authorities, Russian Ambassador Mikhail Shurgalin, South Ossetian Ambassador Oleg Botsiev, delegations of friendly countries, the war veterans, volunteers, and the public.
