The situation at the boundary line of South Ossetia is stable, reported the press-service of the RF FSB Border-guard Department in South Ossetia. Meanwhile, the Georgian TV channel IMEDI showed a false “a report on the possible development of the situation in Georgia in case of Russian intervention”. The residents of South Ossetia who saw the report, did not immediately understand what was happening, and it caused certain perplexity among those who saw the report. People started to call each other.
Without any warning or introduction, the report said that “today a terrorist attack was committed against the President of South Ossetian Eduard Kokoity; after that, Russian troops invaded Georgia. The report said that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev declared Mikhail Saakashvili a terrorist and that it was necessary to liberate Georgia from its current President. The report continued that “the Government and President Saakashvili were evacuated”. In few minutes, the TV channel reported the death of Mikhail Saakashvili and creation of People’s Government headed by Nino Burdjanadze. The program continued for half an hour, and after reporting heavy bombardment of airports and seaports of Georgia, the TV channel eventually mentioned that is was “a special report on possible development of the situation”. “The sources of this information are probably known only to the IMEDI channel, underlined the South Ossetian expert Inal Pliev. “We are closely following the situation and will not comment on it. The most important is that our security is protected by Russian armed forces”, said the expert.
As the South Ossetian Defense Ministry emphasized, “the situation is calm in the republic. It is under full control. The personnel of the South Ossetian Defense Ministry did not receive any alerts so they continue their routine activities.”
