The Ossetian battalion is being formed as part of the 4th Guards military base in the Russian Federation stationed in the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia. As IA "Res" has been informed by the chief of press service for the Ministry of Defense of South Ossetia, Galina Guchmazovа, "the citizens of South Ossetia, who want to continue to serve in the army, now will be provided with opportunity to acquire new knowledge, learn military discipline and matériel at a level consistent with the Russian armed forces. - Ossetian battalion of the Russian military base will be the forge of professional military personnel for the Republic of South Ossetia."

Competitive recruitment on a contract basis has already been announced.
"Statements are accepted from the male citizens of South Ossetia under the age of 35 years old with experience in military service. The wage will meet the Russian one. They will enjoy all the privileges provided by the laws of the Russian Federation", Galina Guchmazova has underlined.
It should be reminded, that the "Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation" was signed September 17, 2008 and January 20, 2009 it came into force. The document, in particular, provides that the contracting parties will jointly take all available measures to remove threat to peace, breach of peace; they will resist the acts of aggression by any state or group of states, and render each other assistance, including military one, in a procedure of the right to individual or collective self-defence according to article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
