The Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, was awarded the Order of Friendship of the Republic of South Ossetia. According to the presidential press service, the award was presented to the Governor by the President of the Republic, Anatoly Bibilov, at the Hermitage Theater as part of the Ossetian Culture Day.
“This award is not for me, but for residents of St. Petersburg. It is a manifestation of friendship, good neighborliness and respect for our city and its inhabitants,” said Alexander Beglov.
On Wednesday and Thursday, St. Petersburg is hosting the Days of Ossetian Culture. They are dedicated to the 270th anniversary of the first embassy of Ossetia in St. Petersburg to the court of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna. From this embassy, the rapprochement between Ossetia and Russia began, it was the beginning of the unification of the fate of the Russian and Ossetian peoples.
Alexander Beglov held a business meeting with Anatoly Bibilov. An agreement was reached to conduct cultural and youth exchanges. According to the Governor, the Northern capital and South Ossetia have many promising areas of cooperation. This, for example, tourism, medicine.
He invited the Ossetian delegation to the St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum and to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum next year.
“I also want to invite you on January 27, 2020 - on the day of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade. You will receive a gift-: copies of the unique documentary film "Ladoga", shot during the blockade, will be presented to you. Our activists have found it in the archives. This unique tape was shown this year,” said Alexander Beglov. He has stressed: Ossetians were in the ranks of the defenders of Leningrad and the townspeople remember this.
Anatoly Bibilov noted that the friendship connecting St. Petersburg and South Ossetia should be passed on to the next generations. He expressed gratitude to Alexander Beglov "for attention, help and assistance in holding the Days of Ossetian culture in St. Petersburg."
