The inauguration of South Ossetia’s President-elect, Marat Kambolov—who won the election on September 18—will take place on September 30.

The Republic’s Central Election Commission (CEC) reported this to the "Res" news agency.

"A president elected in accordance with the Republic's constitution and constitutional laws assumes office on the tenth day following the CEC's official publication of the election results," the CEC has clarified.

The arrival of the Nicaraguan delegation for the early presidential elections serves as an expression of solidarity with the people of South Ossetia, an international observer Cairo Amador, Vice-Chairman of the Supreme Electoral Council of the Republic of Nicaragua, said.

He has noted that the election campaign is being conducted with a high level of organization.

"First of all, I would like to convey a message of strong support from our government and people. I am proud to be here and to witness the political processes taking place in the Republic," he said.

Anton Lopatin, an observer from the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, highly praised the organization of the presidential election in South Ossetia.

"Today is an important day for South Ossetia—the presidential election is taking place. It is no exaggeration to already congratulate the Republic's electoral system on the successful organization of the voting," Lopatin has stated.

According to him, a festive atmosphere prevails at the polling stations, and the commission members are demonstrating professional competence.

The political party "Iry Farn" notified the Central Election Commission (CEC) of a pre-election congress to nominate a presidential candidate on July 18. Members of the political party are expected to support the candidacy of their leader, Khokh Chochiev. Additionally, the parliament member Oleg Kozaev has announced his participation in the elections; a meeting of his initiative group will be held on July 19.

Chochiev participated in the 2024 parliamentary elections, but his party failed to overcome the 7% threshold and failed to enter the eighth parliament.

The unity among all political forces is crucial for South Ossetia, and presidential candidate Marat Kambolov is contributing to this, Vadim Tedeev, Rector of the South Ossetian State University, noted in a media comment.

According to him, all political forces in the Republic, as well as public organizations, were present at the meeting of the initiative group nominating Kambolov for the post of head of state.

The Rector has noted that the presidents of South Ossetia who have led the country at various times have also unanimously supported Kambolov's nomination.

Seventy-two polling stations will be opened in South Ossetia for the early presidential elections.

As noted byEmilia Gagieva, chairperson of the Central Election Commission, during a meeting, polling stations are being approved only in South Ossetia, as there is no information yet on how many stations and where the CEC can open them outside the Republic.

A signature document supporting the nomination of Marat Kambolov as President of the Republic has been submitted to the Central Election Commission of South Ossetia.

The document was created by the initiative of workers at the BTK-4 factory, according to the official website of the Central Election Commission.⠀ ⁣⁣⠀

⁣⁣The next step will be a meeting of the initiative group, scheduled for July 7.

During the meeting, all legally required procedures for the candidate's further participation in the election campaign will be completed.⁣⁣⠀⁣⁣⠀

The presidential election in South Ossetia will be held on September 18, 2026.

The corresponding resolution was adopted at a session of the Republic's Parliament on Wednesday.

The question of setting the election date was brought before Parliament by Zita Besaeva, Chair of the Committee on Legislation, Legality, and Local Self-Government.

The deputies voted unanimously for the date. Of the 34 members of Parliament, 29 participated in the vote.
