The Embassy of South Ossetia in Russia took part in the farewell ceremony with the first Ambassador of the Russian Federation to South Ossetia Elbrus Kargiev, the press service of the Embassy reports.

The first Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia (2008-2017), Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Envoy of the 1st class Elbrus Kargiev passed away January 11, 2020.

The sad news of the death of a top-class diplomat Elbrus Kargiev, residents of South Ossetia took with deep regret. Representatives of the leadership, diplomatic circles, and the public of the Republic expressed condolences to the relatives of the deceased.

Elbrus Kargiev was born on August 22, 1944 in the city of Dzaudzhikau of the North Ossetian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (now Vladikavkaz).

Since 1994, he worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. From September 2007 to October 2008, he was the chief adviser to the Fourth Department of the CIS Countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, which oversees Abkhazia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and South Ossetia.

From October 25, 2008 to May 23, 2017 - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of South Ossetia. He became the first Russian ambassador to this country after recognizing its independence of the Russian Federation on August 26, 2008.

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Envoy of the 1st class (2011). He was awarded the Orders of Friendship (2011), Honor (2017), the Order of Friendship of the Republic of South Ossetia (2014).

The farewell with Elbrus Kargiev took part on Monday in the ritual hall of the Central Design Bureau in Moscow. The funeral will be held on Wednesday in Vladikavkaz.
