Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved the signing of an agreement on dual citizenship between the Russian Federation and South Ossetia, the corresponding order was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

"Accept the proposal of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, agreed with the interested federal executive authorities, on the signing of an agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia on the settlement of issues of dual citizenship. Approve the draft agreement previously worked out with the South Ossetian party, allowing the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make changes to it that are not of a fundamental nature ", - the document says.

According to the order, the Russian Foreign Ministry was instructed to sign this agreement on behalf of the Russian Federation. According to the first article of the agreement, "citizens of one party have the right to acquire the citizenship of the other party without renouncing their citizenship of that party."

According to the fifth point of the agreement, persons with dual citizenship undergo military service where they permanently reside at the time of conscription. In addition, citizens with dual citizenship who have completed military service in one of the countries to the agreement, are exempted from another draft in the other one.

"Issues of contract military service, training in military educational institutions of persons who are citizens of both countries, can be regulated by separate agreements," the document adds.
