On Tuesday, President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov awarded the builders of the Zar bypass road, which had been put into operation 30 years ago.
The head of state has noted that it is rightfully called the "Road of Life", as it has become a salvation for hundreds of refugees.
"If it had not been built, our people would have had to go through much more tragedies. You have saved hundreds of lives by your work. This is the most important achievement of you: tractor drivers, engineers, people who actually built this road with their hands, without schemes and carrying out geodetic works. We are proud of you and immensely grateful for the heroism and patriotism shown in the most difficult conditions,” the President said.
Anatoly Bibilov presented the Order of Honor to the head of the construction of the Zar bypass road Leonid Kharebov. Other participants in the meeting were also presented with high state awards.
The Zar bypass road was built 30 years ago, when the capital of South Ossetia and three districts of the Republic were blocked by the Georgian armed formations. On the Tskhinval-Dzau highway, they attacked all passing cars, including ambulances. People were taken hostage, killed and tortured. Then it became necessary to break through a road along the Zar bypass pass. It was a heroic work in the name of saving people's lives.
