Alexander Bastrykin positively assessed the initiative of South Ossetia to join the Russian Federation

Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin has positively assessed the initiative of the President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov to hold a referendum on the possible entry of the Republic into Russia. This was reported to journalists in the press service of the Investigative Committee.

"The Chairman of the Investigative Committee noted the relevance of Bibilov's initiative to take legal steps aimed at resolving the issue of the Republic's possible entry into Russia. Bastrykin has stressed that South Ossetia is a long-standing and important strategic partner of the Russian Federation," the report says.

Bastrykin has reminded that in August 2008, South Ossetia was subjected to military aggression by Georgia. Employees of the Investigative Committee provided their colleagues with all possible assistance in fixing the evidence of the crimes of the Georgian authorities and military personnel, an enormous amount of work was done to investigate such cruel crimes as the genocide of the Ossetian ethnic group, the massacres of Russian citizens living in South Ossetia, and Russian peacekeepers.
