In South Ossetia, has been given the last honors to Georgy Koraev (Gigu), perished during the Russian special operation in Ukraine. Georgiy was participating in the defense of Donbass since 2014.
A civil memorial service was held in Tskhinval on Saturday.
Residents of the Republic, as well as the leadership, headed by President Alan Gagloev, came to see Koraev on his last journey.
“Today we are given the last honors to one of the best sons of Ossetia on his last journey. He showed himself to be a hero, was a good man who will be remembered by young people as a real defender. He was fighting for the right cause. Today everyone understands that if we do not win this war, a difficult future awaits us,” said Alan Gagloev.
By decree of the President of the Republic, Georgy Koraev was posthumously awarded the medal "Defender of the Fatherland". The medal was presented to the wife of the deceased by the head of state.
Friends of Georgy called him a brave warrior, a man from whom they took an example. His friend Dmitry Dudaev said that it would be hard for them without George.
“He was a very courageous man, brave and reliable. The late head of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko, with whom Georgy was working always cited him as an example as a brave warrior. He was a good friend to us, it's hard without him. The names of people like Georgy should not be forgotten,” said Dudaev.
Koraev was awarded state awards for his valiant service on guard of peace in the DPR. He was working with the late head of the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko and the legendary commander from South Ossetia Oleg Mamiev.
Georgy perished along with comrades Marat Dzhioev and Vladimir Kozaev (Khitor) on March 7, 2022 in Ukraine. The comrades were also buried recently, a few months after their death.
Koraev is survived by his wife and two daughters.
