The South Ossetian people will always remember their heroes - veterans of the movement for freedom and self-determination, who created and strengthened the statehood of South Ossetia, President Alan Gagloev said, speaking at the parade dedicated to the Republic Day.
“Our people will remember the heroic warriors who stood up to defend their native country, everyone who did not leave South Ossetia during the hard times of war, those doctors who, under fire in the dim light of a kerosene lamp, carried out complex operations, who, under fire, continued to teach classes in schools and lectures at the university, who were baking bread and repaired weapons in the frozen workshops, who were paving roads or transported the wounded under fire,” the head of state said.
The people are grateful to them for their courage and fortitude, for their civil and military duty fulfilled to the end, for their faith in the Republic, for their military exploits and for their selfless work.
“You will always be the example for new generations, who will also be ready to stand up for the defense of their native South Ossetia, and will also ensure the development and prosperity of the Fatherland with their work. Bright memory to those who rightfully should have shared the joy of today’s bright and joyful holiday, but gave their lives for the sake of the freedom of South Ossetia,” the President said.
Those present at the celebration have observed a minute of silence in honor of the blessed memory of fellow citizens whose path was cut short by the war or whose heart could not withstand the continuous strain of spiritual and physical strength for the sake of victory.
