The recognition of the independence of South Ossetia by the Republic of Nicaragua on September 3, 2008 was a truly significant event in the history and fate of the Ossetian people, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Akhsar Dzhioev has noted in a congratulatory message to Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of the recognition of the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia by Nicaragua.
According to the Minister, the recognition by Nicaragua confirmed the right of the people of South Ossetia to life, freedom and independence.
“South Ossetia will always be grateful to the leadership and people of Nicaragua for the outstretched hand of friendship, solidarity and support,” Akhsar Dzhioev said
It should be noted that Nicaragua became the first country to recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia following Russia.
