Memorial plaque to the internationalist soldier from South Ossetia Igor Siukaev, who died heroically in the Afghan war, has been installed on the facade of the Tskhinval School No. 3.

The ceremony was held on Tuesday and was attended by the capital's mayor Romeo Khugaev, representatives of the organization of the Afghan soldiers in South Ossetia, Siukaev's classmates, and others. As reported to IA "Res» by Murat Guchmazov, Chairman of the Union of Veterans of Afghanistan in South Ossetia, a memorial plaque had previously been placed on the facade of the school, but after the renovation of the institution, it was no longer installed.

On behalf of our veterans' organization, we contacted the city mayor's office to ask for permission to install the plaque again. Igor's classmates ordered a new plaque and today we installed it on the facade of the third school where Siukaev studied. Igor served in Afghanistan since 1984 and proved himself to be a disciplined and responsible soldier," Guchmazov said.

In November 1984, Siukaev died from wounds received in the battle near the village of Puli-Khumri. For courage and heroism in the performance of military duty, he was repeatedly awarded by the unit's command. His last award was the Order of the Red Star (posthumously).
