Russia's position on South Ossetia has remained unchanged since August 2008.
This was stated by Foreign Minister of South Ossetia, Akhsar Dzhioev, answering a question of the "Res" news agency regarding the response of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to a media question about possible agreements between Georgia, South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
"At the press conference following the high-level week of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, commenting on the recent statements by the Georgian officials about reconciliation, noted that "it is up to the countries themselves - Abkhazia and South Ossetia - to decide."
Russian partners are doing everything they can to promote the negotiation process in the format of the Geneva discussions and the achievement of agreements between Georgia and South Ossetia and Abkhazia, including in terms of signing a document on the non-use of force.
“In fact, Minister Lavrov emphasized this again,” Dzhioev has commented.
As for the possibility of building relations with neighboring Georgia in the future, according to the Minister, South Ossetia’s position is known and has been repeatedly voiced.
“We proceed from the existing status of the recognized state,” the Minister has concluded.
