Members of the South Ossetian Parliament supported the statement on the recognition of the genocide of the peoples of the Soviet Union by Nazi Germany and its accomplices during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
The question was raised at the session by the head of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-parliamentary relations Zaza Driaev.
“The Parliament strongly condemns the West’s attempts to rethink the causes and results of the Great Patriotic War and considers it fundamental to give a legal assessment of the war crimes as well as crimes against humanity committed during the Great Patriotic War by Nazi Germany,” Driaev has noted.
He added that, given the scale of human losses in South Ossetia, the attack by Nazi Germany could be described as “genocide.”
"Currently, there is active support for the Ukrainian neo-Nazi regime. People of South Ossetia, having experienced the horrors of "genocide" by Georgia, are fully aware of how dangerous the revival of Nazism and the underestimation of its threat are," the parliamentarian has emphasized.
As noted by Speaker of the Parliament Alan Margiev, the Ossetian people know firsthand what "Nazism" is.
"Today, a special military operation is underway aimed at eradicating neo-Nazism so that our future generations do not encounter it again," the Speaker has emphasized.
As noted by Vice-Speaker of the Parliament Taimuraz Tadtaev, South Ossetia is one of those regions where the memory of the Great Patriotic War is alive.
"We see that today in many liberated territories our soldiers are participating in the special military operation, so I consider the statement absolutely correct and necessary," the parliamentarian said.
