South Ossetia's position on Georgia is unchanged - we are waiting for recognition of the genocide of the Ossetian people and the signing of a document guaranteeing the non-use of force against our Republic, President Alan Gagloev said at the final press conference on Saturday.
"South Ossetia, is closely monitoring all the processes that are taking place on the territory of Georgia, since any political upheaval there can cause destabilization at our borders, which are under the reliable protection of the Russian and the South Ossetian border guards," the President said.
According to him, the result of many years of manipulation and the introduction of the Western values for the Georgian society have turned out to be disastrous, which we have been observing in recent years.
"We certainly would not be against it if the politicians in power in Georgia were those who adequately perceive the current realities, and do not stubbornly cling to unrealistic illusions.
However, we are realists; we have no illusions and have repeatedly seen that all disagreements between the political forces in the neighboring state end when it comes to its relations with South Ossetia," the head of state has emphasized.
He has noted that the policy of the "Georgian Dream" regarding South Ossetia differs from the position of the opposition forces only in minor nuances.
"Both the current Georgian government and the opposition continue to cling to the mythical "territorial integrity", not recognizing the right of South Ossetia not only to self-determination, but even simply to exist.
In these conditions, naturally, one cannot count on any normalization of relations between Tskhinval and Tbilisi in the near future - regardless of how the political crisis in Georgia ends," the leader of the Republic of South Ossetia is confident.
He has continued that normalization of relations between South Ossetia and Georgia is possible only as the two neighboring independent states.
However, in Georgia, neither the government nor the opposition, unfortunately, are ready for this today and are unlikely to be ready to recognize the current realities in the near future, the President has concluded.
