The Russian-South Ossetian cooperation

08/12/2012 - 18:55

Recently it`s being heard the statements about a hypothetical Russian betrayal of one of its closest allies - South Ossetia. Some experts persuade the population that Moscow could agree with the new authorities of Tbilisi behind Tskhinval to withdraw its recognition of the South Ossetian statehood in exchange for the extension of the current cooperation with Georgia. Meanwhile, life has clearly demonstrated that these statements have nothing to do with reality.

The recent parliamentary election in Georgia, which has been dubbed the "Brooms Revolution," has developed a dual power in the neighboring country. The President remained the same, only his powers have been diminished in favor of the Prime Minister: Saakashvili himself proposed this law in the hope that his party would win the election and offer him the position of prime minister with wider powers than the president.

Although the "Georgian Dream" has won the parliamentary elections in Georgia, many media, which were established owing to Mikhail Saakashvili, are still hoping for revenge - but now in the information sphere. However, it`s too early to consider that their hopes are vain, - in days of old his team was carrying on the propaganda campaign very well. Though, since that time both his team and the time itself have changed considerably.

We will work with any authority of Georgia, which recognizes the Republic of South Ossetia

Georgia held parliamentary elections in which has won the opposition party "Georgian Dream", led by Bidzina Ivanishvili.

South Ossetia had been observing the elections with interest. We have asked the RSO Presidential Envoy for post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev to comment how the outcome of the political processes in the neighboring country will affect the relations between South Ossetia and Georgia, and what are the prospects of development of relations between Georgia and South Ossetia:
- Parliamentary election in Georgia, first of all, is the affair of the people of Georgia. But as far as the relationship between South Ossetia and Georgia is not settled yet, of course, we cannot help being interested in it. First of all, the results of the elections suggest that the people of Georgia are tired of Mr. Saakashvili's government, of the position they have been over the years, and, I think, the current choice was made after careful consideration and with the hope for a better future.

What are the authorities of Georgia preparing for?

On the eve of parliamentary elections the domestic political struggle in Georgia became extremely heated. And the priorities in the Georgian society are not in favor of Saakashvili.
There is a possibility that the population of the country, tired of the ill-conceived and adventurist policy of the current regime, will give their votes to "renovationists" in the person of supporters of B. Ivanishvili.
Naturally, Saakashvili will never accept such political spectrum.

One of the most popular topics in the Georgian media is the strategic command-staff maneuvers "Caucasus-2012", which has started today, September 17, 2012. Georgian media regularly publish the articles and broadcast the discussions associated with these maneuvers. The main objective of these broadcastsis to suggest an idea to the Georgian and international community that after such maneuvers in 2008 Georgia became involved in a war with Russia and has lost 20% of its original territory occupied by Moscow. The fact that in August 2008 it was the Georgian army which attacked the Russian peacekeepers, who had been serving in accordance with the interstate Dagomys agreement and it was Georgia, which tried to wipe the South Ossetian capital together with its inhabitants off the map, has not been even indirectly mentioned in the Georgian media.

Review of the Georgian Media: Saakashvili is nervous and has refused civil rights to the Georgians, residing in Russia; the Georgian people are looking forward to Ivanishvili

11/09/2012 - 18:50

On the eve of the parliamentary elections the Georgian ruling party-National Movement - is obviously nervous. It has more than a good reason to fear that Bidzina Ivanishvili and his Georgian dream will wrest the initiative from Saakashvili. This may thwart the ruling power to transform Georgia from a presidential to a parliamentary republic with a strong prime minister, in the chair of which the president is seeing himself after the presidential election. On the one hand, it would provide continuity in the Georgian domestic and foreign policy, and on the other – it would exacerbate the last two years stagnation in various spheres of public life.
