In Tskhinval was held a meeting of the EU, UN and OSCE co-chairs of the Geneva international discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia with members of the South Ossetian delegation at international discussions, during which was discussed the agenda of the 33forthcoming round of the Geneva discussions.
As noted after the meeting by Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy of South Ossetia for post-conflict settlement Murat Dzhioev, in the course of the meeting was emphasized the necessity of finalizing the joint statement of the participants` commitment to the principle of non-use of force.
"The work of the Geneva discussions, as a rule, takes place in two groups - on security and humanitarian issues - said Dzhioev. – At today's meeting we have unanimously stated that the issue of security and non-use of force is a key in the first working group. There were noted the positive changes in the Geneva talks, as well as the need to finalize a joint statement by the participants` commitment to the principle of non-use of force. In the second group we will focus on humanitarian issues, primarily, on the missing persons, the release of prisoners, the cultural heritage".
In his comments to journalists, the EC co-chair Herbert Salber called the previous round of Geneva discussions successful.
"The last round was quite successful, said Salber. - We had quite a tough discussion, but this, in my opinion, is fine. It has shown that the Geneva discussions give us a good platform for conversations on complex topics".
The OSCE Co-chair Angelo Gnadinger expressed his opinion on the issue of the missing persons.
"We have met today with relatives of the missing, said Gnadinger. I understand their position. Seven years have passed, and there is not any progress on this issue. Of course, I understand that they are disappointed. We are looking for the most suitable candidate for the independent expert, who will deal with the issues of missing persons, and such person is found. In the coming days we will sign a contract with him, and he will assume his duties."
