South Ossetian diplomats at the 42nd round of the Geneva discussions again demanded to discuss the situation in Eastern Ossetia.
According to the report of the South Ossetian delegation, "the South Ossetian participants once again drew attention to the problem of threat to preservation of the Ossetian historical and cultural monuments in the territories of Eastern Ossetia which are under Georgia's control, where the expelled Ossetian population is not admitted."
Ossetian representatives appealed to the Georgian side to allow experts to survey and assess the state of the monuments of the Ossetian historical and architectural heritage in the historical area of Tyrsygom, which is under the control of Georgia and was depopulated due to the anti-Ossetian policy of the Georgian authorities.
Earlier on this occasion, a special comment was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the RSO.
As stressed by the RSO Foreign Ministry, the problem of the historical Eastern Ossetia, including Tyrsygom, Kudykom and Kob, which are under Georgian control, is old and each year becomes more complicated. "Once the crowded villages are in ruins, the Ossetian population is completely squeezed out of those places. This is an obvious case of what the Georgian authorities dreamed about South Ossetia, which they wanted to turn into an "open field," the Foreign Ministry stated.
It was stressed that Eastern Ossetia, being beyond the boundaries of the autonomy, and then beyond the statehood of South Ossetia, became easy prey for Georgian expansion.
According to the representative of the RSO Foreign Ministry, the current Georgian leadership, publicly declaring adherence to the rules of international law and democratic values, in practice restricts the access of Ossetians-natives of the Kazbegi district to their own homes and graves of their ancestors.
"All this happens without explaining any reasons and is a blatant violation of human rights and moral standards of humanism," summed up the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the RSO.
The problems of the Ossetians of the Trusovsky and Gudsky gorges, as well as the Kobsky basin, also became a subject of discussion during the meeting of the President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov with the leader of the public organization "Daryal" Gairbek Salbiev.
