As reported by the press service of the head of state, the meeting was held within the framework of the official visit of the President of the RSO to Syria.
At the presidential palace in Damascus, Anatoly Bibilov was met with the Guard of Honor, and the orchestra performed the hymns of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Syrian Arab Republic. During the meeting in an expanded format, Anatoly Bibilov expressed gratitude to Bashar Assad for the decision to recognize the independence of South Ossetia.
"This was of great importance for the people of South Ossetia. Having recognized South Ossetia, Syria has confirmed its democratic values, adherence to international norms, where it is determined the right of any people to be among the same free nations, " said Anatoly Bibilov.
He has stressed that the development of relations between South Ossetia and Syria meets the interests of present and future generations of both countries.
Bashar Assad, for his part, has noted that the establishment of diplomatic relations and the development of cooperation is important for both South Ossetia and Syria.
"Your visit will be the impetus for the development of relations, and the agreement that we will sign today will be the foundation for a full and diverse cooperation," Bashar Assad said.
According to the Syrian leader, he appreciates the support of the leadership of South Ossetia in the fight against terrorism.
"I appreciate your position and support of Syria in the fight against terrorism. This position is based on your moral principles and international law, "the Syrian President concluded.
