On October 22, during his visit to the Italian Republic, Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia, Dmitry Medoev, visited Sicily, the province of Catania.
According to the press service of the South Ossetia Foreign Ministry, “an official welcoming ceremony was held in Randazzo for Dmitry Medoev by the mayor of the city, Francesco Sgroi. Deputy mayors, representatives of the city’s public, as well as Consul General of the Russian Federation in Palermo Yevgeny Panteleev also attended the meeting, “Before the event, national anthems of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Italian Republic were performed.”
In his speech, Mr. Sgroi welcomed the distinguished guest, and also expressed his readiness to conclude a cooperation agreement with the city of Tskhinval.
In turn, Dmitry Medoev thanked the mayor for the invitation to visit the city of Randazzo and for the warm welcome, spoke about the history and culture of South Ossetia, the 10th anniversary of recognition of the independence of South Ossetia, and the prospects for further development of the Republic.
After the completion of the ceremony, the Minister, accompanied by the mayor, went to the children's municipal institution, on the territory of which was planted a walnut tree - a symbol of peace.
On the same day, Dmitry Medoev and Francesco Sgroi, accompanied by the carabinieri, climbed Mount Etna, where the national flags of South Ossetia and Italy were raised.
