The list of countries that have recognized South Ossetia ,will be expanded, the work in this direction is underway, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Dmitry Medoev told RIA Novosti.
"The first to recognize the independence of our country was the Russian Federation; on August 26 we will celebrate the 11th anniversary of this historic act for us. Then came the recognition by Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru, Tuvalu, Vanuatu. In 2018, the independence of South Ossetia was recognized by the Syrian Arab Republic. This list will undoubtedly be expanded, relevant work is being done in this direction, "said Medoev.
He has noted that the Republic, in particular, is developing good relations with Iran.
"In Ossetia, they consider this country historically and geographically close. What is important, both the Ossetian and Persian languages belong to the common Iranian language group of the Indo-European language family. We have a lot in common in understanding the modern geopolitics of the region, in particular, regarding the processes in the South Caucasus. There are certain contacts with representatives of the business of this country, scientists and cultural figures, "said Medoev.
