Georgia's policy of military cooperation with the United States and a number of European countries leads to a new wave of tension and could blow up the peace that was established in 2008, South Ossetian foreign Minister Dmitry Medoev said in an interview with the Turkish newspaper "Cumhuriyet".
“Unfortunately, in 1922, Ossetia was divided by the Bolsheviks into the North and South. Contrary to the will of the Ossetian people, the southern part of Ossetia was included in the neц formation - the Georgian Soviet Republic, and the northern part remained part of the Russian Federal Republic. It seems to me that in this matter we must rely on the legal framework that exists in bilateral relations between the Russian Federation and South Ossetia. This base includes diplomatic relations and agreements in the field of economics, finance, humanitarian issues, as well as agreements in the field of security and defense,” Medoev said.
According to him, after August 2008, the political map of Transcaucasia has changed.
“As a result of Georgia’s aggressive policy towards South Ossetia and Abkhazia, new independent states have been formed - the Republic of South Ossetia and the Republic of Abkhazia. This is the new Caucasian reality that Georgia and its American and European friends do not want to reckon with,” the Foreign Minister noted.
Medoev has emphasized that the position of South Ossetia is based on the prevention of escalation in neighboring territories, the exclusion of all forms of force pressure and aggression in international relations.
“We believe that Georgia’s course towards military cooperation with the United States and a number of European countries leads to a new wave of tension and can blow up the peace, established in 2008,” the Foreign Minister said.
The Minister has noted that the indisputable fact remains that the militarization of Georgia has always led to chaos, wars and destruction in the entire region, including for Georgia itself.
