Speaker of the Parliament of South Ossetia Alan Tadtaev at a briefing in Tskhinval tpld about the parliamentary hearings, which will discuss the work of the commissions on the demarcation and delimitation of the state border of South Ossetia with Georgia.

“In 2009, when the Russian side committed itself to protecting the borders of South Ossetia, the Republic at that time relied only on the maps of the General Staff of the Russian Ministry of Defense, and only after that, in the same year, was created a state commission for demarcation and delimitation of the state border of our Republic with Georgia. This commission cannot unilaterally work out all issues related to borders, because both parties must take part in its work. Given the fact that Georgia did not cooperate on this issue, the South Ossetian commission unilaterally carried out this activity,” the Speaker said.

According to him, a parliamentary commission on demarcation and delimitation of the border of South Ossetia with Georgia was also created last year.

“In its work, the parliamentary commission relied on the Decree on the Formation of the South Ossetian Autonomous Region in 1922. Today, we are trying to draw the border precisely in the areas indicated in this document,” said the Speaker.

Tadtaev noted that parliamentary hearings should be held in the legislative body in the near future with the participation of members of the state and parliamentary commissions.

“We want to hear the information about the work of the commissions, according to which scheme the posts of Russian border guards were put up. The archive contains materials that would be useful for commissions in working on the borders, deputies are interested in whether members of the commissions used all necessary resources in their activities, parliamentarians want to ask them questions and get answers to them,” the Speaker emphasized.

According to the Speaker, in South Ossetia there is no aby body that would be professionally engage in cartography and geodesy.

“Accordingly, it is now impossible to calculate whether the work of this or that commission was carried out correctly. We know that the overall result of the work was sent to the North Caucasus Institute, which is engaged in cartography, and taking into account the work of the two commissions, maps of the Republic of South Ossetia were created. And they are made very professionally,” said Tadtaev.
