The problem with the illegal Georgian post in the area of the village of Uista must be solved diplomatically, the main thing today is to prevent bloodshed and preserve the security of the people, said President of the Republic Anatoly Bibilov.

The situation in the Uista area, where as a result of Georgia’s setting up of the illegal post in August last year, tension did not subside, became the topic of discussion at the meeting of the Parliament of South Ossetia, where deputies hear the government’s report on the results of activities in 2019.

The question was raised by the deputy from the" Nykhas "party, David Sanakoev, who asked the head of the Cabinet the results of work in the framework of the earlier report of the commission on delimitation and demarcation of the border with Georgia. In his opinion, the leadership did not take preventive measures to prevent the situation in the region of Uista. President of the Republic Anatoly Bibilov, taking part in the session, commented on the issue. He turned to the Speaker with a request to give an opportunity to answer the question, recalling that the country's security is the presidential prerogative.

"It was on my instructions that the forces were involved, ensuring order and security for people in the Uista region. And today, border guards are standing on the border of the Republic of South Ossetia, this measure has actually been taken to prevent further escalation of tension ...", Bibilov said.

He noted that the issue would not have arisen if the borders with Georgia had been clearly defined in 2009.

"Preventive measures should not have been taken today, but much earlier, from 2008, when they determined the border with Georgia along the Lopan River," the President emphasized, noting that at this stage the South Ossetian border post was set up there and the main thing for the Republic's leadership is to prevent bloodshed and preserve peace. .

"This issue is being discussed through diplomatic channels, including in the framework of the Geneva discussions, it cannot be removed from today's agenda and will be solved ...", the head of state emphasized.

There was an opinion among the parliamentarians that it was necessary to hold accountable those who made these decisions at that time.
