President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov discussed the issue of reconstruction of the building of the synagogue in Tskhinval with the Chief Rabbi of Russia Berl Lazar, the press service of the head of state reported. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the XXIV St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
The President stressed the need to restore the historical part of the capital of South Ossetia, destroyed during the Georgian aggression.
“The buildings located in the old quarter of Tskhinval are part of the history of the city. Including the synagogue, which was the oldest in the Soviet Union. And if an opportunity is found for its reconstruction, we can only welcome it,” Anatoly Bibilov said.
Berl Lazar, for his part, has noted that he knows and understands the importance of the issue of reconstruction of the building, stressing that he is ready to take the necessary measures to restore the building of the Tskhinval synagogue.
