President of the Republic of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania will pay an official visit to South Ossetia to participate in commemorative events timed to coincide with the 13th anniversary of the events of August 2008, the press service of the President of the Republic reported on Thursday.
"Within the framework of the visit, talks will be held between Presidents Anatoly Bibilov and Aslan Bzhania, as well as an expanded meeting on cooperation between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Republic of Abkhazia," the press service noted.
The visit of the Abkhazian leader will take place on August 6-9.
On the night of August 8, 2008, when the whole world was watching the opening of the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, Georgia began bombing the capital of South Ossetia, Grad installations were operating in the sleeping city, and the Georgian army launched Operation Clean Field. The purpose of this operation was to "destroy" South Ossetia. The Russian peacekeepers' base was also attacked.
Moscow, defending its citizens, repulsed Tbilisi's armed aggression against South Ossetia, after which (August 26, 2008) recognized the independence of the two republics.
