South Ossetian servicemen will take part in the exercises in Abkhazia

Servicemen of the Defense Ministry of South Ossetia will take part in the command-staff mobilization exercises, which will be held in Abkhazia from 19 to 20 October.

According to the official website of the Defense Ministry, the Defense Minister Ibrahim Gasseev received an invitation to take part in the joint exercises from his Abkhaz counterpart Vladimir Anua.

In accordance with the order of the Minister, an operational group and a consolidated unit will be formed in the near future, which will include servicemen of a special-purpose battalion, a motorized rifle battalion, etc.

Ibrahim Gasseev explained that all branches of the Abkhazian troops, including aviation and the navy, will be involved in the exercises.

"To train the personnel, provide the necessary property, special equipment and send them to the place of temporary deployment in Abkhazia," the Minister instructed the responsible persons.

The invitation to take part in the joint exercises was sent to the head of the defense department of South Ossetia by the Defense Minister of Abkhazia Vladimir Anua. The letter noted that the command-staff mobilization exercise was planned by the command of the Abkhaz army on the basis of the agreements between the commanders-in-chief of the Armed Forces of the two republics.

"The decision has been made to for the South Ossetan servicemen to take part in the final stage of the exercises.

Vladimir Anua expressed confidence that the joint activities would have a positive effect on the level of combat and operational readiness in the Armed Forces of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which would ensure the defense capability of the two states at the proper level.

The agreement on holding joint exercises of the armies of the two countries was reached by presidents of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov and Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania during the visit of the South Ossetian delegation to Abkhazia to celebrate the Victory Day.

The agreement on military cooperation between South Ossetia and Abkhazia was signed in 2009.
