At the Wednesday meeting, the Federation Council ratified the agreement submitted by Russian President Vladimir Putin with the Republic of South Ossetia on the procedure for calculating length of service for the appointment of a monthly allowance for contract servicemen and for establishing the amount of a monthly allowance for military pensioners.
According to the explanatory note, the conclusion of such an agreement was dictated by the need to "preserve for servicemen, as well as for persons dismissed from military service, the right to appoint a monthly allowance" taking into account the length of service they have acquired in service in the armed forces and other military formations of Russia and South Ossetia "provided that during the periods of their military service they were citizens of one of the parties."
The law stipulates that "servicemen doing military service under contract in the armed forces of one party, in the length of service for the appointment of a monthly bonus for length of service are counted in calendar terms, the periods of their military service in the armed forces of the other party " if they have citizenship. A similar rule is introduced for military personnel who served in one of the countries that are parties to the agreement and retired, which is appointed in accordance with the laws of another country.
