A solemn ceremony of awarding servicemen in honor of the Day of Courage and National Unity was held at the Defense Ministry of South Ossetia, the press service of the defense department reported.
An important date symbolizing the solidarity of the South Ossetian people against the Georgian aggression is marked on 23 November.
The personnel of the department were congratulated by the Defense Minister of South Ossetia Ibragim Gasseev. He has noted that the day of November 23, 1989 entered the modern history of South Ossetia. It symbolizes the people's desire for freedom and justice, for independent development, for independence from the insidious aspirations of their southern neighbor.
“In the difficult years for the Fatherland, all the people united their forces and laid the foundation for the long-term struggle for their rights. During this time, all of us, the entire South Ossetian people have repeatedly had to resist the aspirations of a cruel enemy, shoulder to shoulder in a single formation to fight the enemy, many times superior in strength, military-political, economic, demographic capabilities,” he said.
The Defense Minister has stressed that the people of the Republic of South Ossetia stood up and brought their cause to a historic victory in an unequal struggle, and this victory was crowned with the recognition of the state sovereignty of the Republic of South Ossetia by the Russian Federation and other countries of the international community.
“We take an example from the older generations, who showed courage, heroism and readiness for self-sacrifice on the battlefields. Our elder brothers inscribed their names in the chronicle of Freedom in golden letters,” concluded the head of the defense department.
Ibrahim Gasseev wished the personnel success in military service and daily life, health, peace and prosperity to the people of South Ossetia.
For personal courage shown in hostilities and their organization in the defense of the Fatherland and in honor of the celebration of the Day of Courage and National Unity, a number of servicemen were awarded the medals "Jioty Alan", for exemplary performance of official duties, exemplary military discipline - medals "Khubulty Valeri" ... The servicemen were also presented with certificates of honor.
At the end of the event, it took place a solemn march.
