South Ossetian President Anatoly Bibilov expressed condolences to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in connection with the tragic death of the Russian servicemen as a result of an avalanche on Tuesday in the South Ossetian section of the Transkam.
"The news of human casualties as a result of an avalanche on the southern part of the portal of the Ruck tunnel echoed in our hearts with pain and compassion. Servicemen of the South Military District of the RF Armed Forces courageously carry out the tasks to ensure the security of the Republic of South Ossetia and, in particular, to protect the Ruck tunnel", - the telegram of condolence reads.
Rescuers and doctors of South Ossetia made every effort to save the servicemen. The rescue work continues at the present time, Bibilov noted.
"On behalf of the leadership, the people of the Republic of South Ossetia and on my own behalf, I ask you to convey our sincere condolences and words of support to the families and friends of the victims, wishes of a speedy recovery to the injured of this tragedy," the president said.
As reported, two avalanches in the South Ossetian part of the Transkam hit a building where five Russian soldiers were guarding the Ruck tunnel.
As the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic Azamat Chochiev told IA "Res", two of the four Russian servicemen who were managed to get out from under the avalanche on the South Ossetian section of the Transcaucasian highway died, and they are looking for another one.
Two survived Russian servicemen were taken to the Tskhinval medical center with frostbite of the lower extremities, their condition is stable.
