On Wednesday, Abkhazia established diplomatic relations with the Donetsk People's Republic, the Abkhaz Foreign Ministry reported.
"On March 9, 2022, the Republic of Abkhazia and the Donetsk People's Republic established diplomatic relations through the exchange of notes," the Ministry's website said in the statement published on its website.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic, a draft interstate agreement on friendship and cooperation between the DPR and Abkhazia is currently being prepared, which will become the foundation for the further formation of a legal framework between the republics.
"Abkhazia and the DPR support the desire to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two peoples, strive to promote building-up peaceful and equal relations and are guided by the intention to develop interaction in the interests of the peoples of the two states based on mutual respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as other generally recognized principles and norms of international rights, primarily, the Charter of the United Nations.
On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decrees recognizing the Donetsk and the Luhansk People's Republics, which had declared independence back in 2014. South Ossetia was the first to recognize the independence of the DNR and the LNR in 2014. Diplomatic relations have been established between Tskhinval and the Republics.
There are representative offices of South Ossetia in Donetsk and Lugansk, the issue of opening embassies of South Ossetia in the DPR and the LPR is on the agenda.
