On Thursday, the State Security Committee of South Ossetia spread a message about the provocations by individual citizens of Georgia and Georgian socio-political organizations against the law enforcement officers and military personnel of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation.

"Despite the steps taken by the official Tbilisi to prevent an escalation of tension and the armed conflict on the South Ossetian-Georgian border, individual citizens of Georgia and Georgian socio-political organizations that take radical nationalist and extremist positions continue to consider the possibility of provocations against law enforcement officers and military personnel of the RSO and the RF.

March 26 this year the Border Service of the RSO KGB for violation of the regime of the state border of the RSO in the vicinity of the settlement. Goyat, Tskhinval district, was detained a citizen of Georgia Machabeli Levan Givievich, born in 1987.

In the course of conducting operational-search and investigative measures on this fact, it was established that L. Machabeli in the period from 2005 to 2009. was a serviceman of the 3rd brigade of the Georgian Armed Forces and took an active part in the hostilities in August 2008 on the territory of South Ossetia," the KGB said.

According to the State Security Committee, after the start of a special military operation to demilitarize Ukraine, L. Machabeli tried to join the Georgian National Legion and, as a volunteer, take part in hostilities against the Russian Armed Forces in the Donbass.

"When this was denied to him due to health problems, L. Machabeli decided to illegally enter the territory of South Ossetia and commit a provocation against the Russian military contingent stationed in the Republic. As an evidence base confirming L. Machabeli's criminal intent, the Committee received videos prepared in advance by the said person, in which he, addressing the leadership of Georgia and Ukraine, as well as the Georgian military, directly declares that he will "strike at the Russians" from Georgia. It has also been established that the Georgian Interior Ministry officers, who were guarding the state border from the Georgian side in the area of the settlement of Kere on March 26, unhindered L. Machabeli and did not take any steps to detain him," the KGB explained, adding that preliminary investigative measures against the said person are currently ongoing.

The KGB of the Republic of South Ossetia responsibly declares that any attempts by the Georgian radical, pro-Western and extremist forces to exert any force on the Russian and South Ossetian military personnel will be regarded as international sabotage and terrorist activities, with all the ensuing consequences for its perpetrators.
