Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov congratulated a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, the home front worker Fyodor Valiev, on his 95th birthday, the press service of the diplomatic department reports.

“The Ambassador handed the veteran a congratulatory message from Russian President Vladimir Putin,” the Embassy has noted.

Fyodor Sakoevich Valiev was only 11 years old when the Great Patriotic War began.

Many adult men from his family were called up to the front or went to fight as volunteers.

The women and children who remained in the rear replaced the men in the fields and at the machines. Despite his young age, Valiev was working on the collective farm on an equal basis with adults, making his own contribution to helping the front. And he dreamed of growing up soon so he could go to war.

“I was always worried that the fascists would be defeated without me,” the veteran said.

But Valiev still couldn’t get to the front because he was too young; his front was on the collective farm fields and mountain pastures.
