On Wednesday, South Ossetia is marking the 18th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation.

This event, which took place on September 9, 2008, initiated an official interstate dialogue that has since evolved into a deep strategic partnership and alliance, the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry noted in a statement marking the occasion.

As emphasized by the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of South Ossetia the two countries have made significant strides in developing bilateral ties over these 18 years. For South Ossetia, Russia remains not only a key foreign policy partner but also the primary guarantor of security, stability, and socio-economic development.

"Contemporary relations between Tskhinval and Moscow are comprehensive in nature. The foundation for close cooperation across all spheres—ranging from ensuring shared security and protecting state borders to implementing large-scale socio-economic assistance programs—has been laid in the fundamental treaties signed between the two states," the Ministry has emphasized.

The South Ossetian Foreign Ministry expressed its intention to continue consistently developing and strengthening friendly, multifaceted partnership relations in the interests of both countries and their peoples.

To mark this significant date, congratulatory messages were sent on behalf of the Foreign Minister of the Republic of South Ossetia, Akhsar Dzhioev, to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to South Ossetia, Marat Kulakhmetov.
