Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia issued a press release on the occasion of the 14th anniversary of Georgia's armed aggression against South Ossetia.

On August 8, Republic of South Ossetia is marking the 14th anniversary of the start of Georgia's armed aggression against South Ossetia - one of those dates in the history of Ossetia that will forever remain in the memory of the people as tragic pages, evidence of courage, resilience and heroism.

"Fourteen years ago, on the night of August 7-8, 2008, the first artillery volleys of the Georgian army, encouraged by American instructors, pursuing the criminal goal of turning South Ossetia into an "Open Field", fell on the peaceful sleeping Tskhinval and its surroundings.

As a result of the bloody action carried out by the Georgian authorities under the leadership of Saakashvili, hundreds of innocent people were killed and injured, including. Russian peacekeepers, almost completely destroyed civilian infrastructure. Despite huge losses, South Ossetia, thanks to the courage of its defenders, did not give up. The timely actions of Russia, which carried out the operation to force the aggressor to peace, helped prevent further bloodshed," the press release says.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has noted that the decisions taken and implemented by Russia in August 2008, which are absolutely legal and comply with the moral requirement to protect people's lives, laid the legal foundation for providing strong guarantees for the security of the population of South Ossetia, developing and strengthening bilateral interstate relations.

"Despite the defeat in the 2008 war, it is clear that Georgia is not going to put up with the irreversible consequences of this adventure and continues to stubbornly evade signing a legally binding document on the non-use of force against South Ossetia. Of particular concern is the further deepening of cooperation between Georgia and NATO, which also has a destabilizing effect on the security of the entire Transcaucasian region.

Today, when, right before our eyes, Nazism is once again raising its head and challenging the whole world, it is important to prevent the revival of this man-hating ideology, from which people of different countries have suffered, and any attempts to justify and glorify the accomplices of Nazism. Therefore, people of South Ossetia, who felt the consequences of the Georgian nationalism first hand, went through all the trials of war and deprivation, expressed strong support for the decision of the leadership of the Russian Federation to conduct a special military operation to protect the inhabitants of Donbass and defeat the foothold of neo-Nazism, created near the borders of Russia by the efforts of the West, "- the document reads.

Foreign Ministry of the Republic has noted that after fourteen years in South they do not give up hope that sooner or later not a formal, but a comprehensive objective investigation of the events of August 2008 will be conducted, and after that all the crimes of nationalist Georgia against the South Ossetian people.

"We are firmly convinced that the call to the world community to condemn the war crimes of Georgia and the genocide of the Ossetian people will be heard. The Georgian authorities must recognize their responsibility, and the war criminals must be brought to justice and suffer their deserved punishment," the press release says.
