The Russian party once again drew attention to the counter productiveness of the repeated and unmotivated cancellations by the co-chairs of the regular rounds of the International Geneva Discussions.
This is stated in the statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry following a telephone conversation between Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Galuzin and Co-Chairman of the International Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia, the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has emphasized, that such a practice could lead to the actual blocking of the work of this important negotiating mechanism, which is fraught with damage to regional security.
“The position of the Russian party was confirmed in favor of continuing the International Geneva discussions on the established agenda with an emphasis on ensuring the lasting security of the Republic of Abkhazia and the Republic of South Ossetia,” the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry reads.
It should be reminded, that a telephone conversation between Mikhail Galuzin and Toivo Klaar took place on February 21 at the initiative of the EU side.
