President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev expressed gratitude to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for his decision to support the gasification project for the entire Republic.
This will be a real breakthrough in the development of our economy. We will be able to stop the outflow of the rural population and preserve our villages, give a new impetus to the development of agriculture. This will be of great help in attracting investors to South Ossetia,” Gagloev said during the meeting with the Russian President in the Kremlin.
Today in South Ossetia only the city of Tskhinval and nearby settlements are supplied with gas.
With the introduction of the gas pipeline in 2009, a joint venture of Gazprom - South Ossetia was created, Gazprom's share was 75% plus one share, and South Ossetia's share was 25% minus one share. The agreement on the activities of the joint venture was signed by the governments in 2018.
The Government of the Russian Federation buys South Ossetia's share in the joint venture, undertakes to assist in the gasification of the Republic, the modernization of its gas infrastructure in the amount of up to 2 billion rubles. The authorized bodies are PJSC "Gazprom" and State Unitary Enterprise "Energoresurs - South Ossetia". In 2022, the Russian Federation and South Ossetia signed the agreement to promote the development of the Republic for 2022-2025. The Russian Federation is expected to provide gratuitous financial assistance to South Ossetia.
