President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev met with Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Yevgeny Kuyvashev, the press service of the head of state reports.
The meeting was held within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Evgeny Kuyvashev noted the significance of the Agreement signed with South Ossetia in May this year.
“On May 29 this year, the government of the Russian Federation supported the proposal for cooperation between the Sverdlovsk region and the government of the Republic of South Ossetia. It is symbolic that 31 years ago on the same day, May 29, 1992, the Supreme Council of the Republic of South Ossetia adopted the Act of Declaration of Independence of the Republic of South Ossetia. I am sure that this is a good sign and it promises fruitful cooperation.
Our region can offer a whole range of interaction measures. The key areas are metallurgy and mechanical engineering. We are also actively developing the chemical industry, the production of electronic, optical and pharmaceutical products, as well as medical equipment. Moreover, it is necessary to develop cooperation in the field of mineral processing and the development of hydropower.
We are also interested in importing products from South Ossetia, in particular, light industry, textile supplies,” he said and added that there were proposals to develop cooperation in the field of education.
Evgeny Kuyvashev has also noted that the Sverdlovsk region is one of the multinational regions of Russia.
“It is important for us to maintain harmonious relations with all nationalities. The Ossetian Diaspora traditionally takes part in farmsteads in the Sverdlovsk region, where it presents is culture and talk about their traditions,” he said.
In turn, Alan Gagloev thanked Yevgeny Kuyvashev for the support that the Sverdlovsk region provided to the republic.
“In the most difficult years for the republic, the Sverdlovsk region provided humanitarian and material assistance to the people of South Ossetia. We appreciate it and value the relations that have developed between us. We see that these relations are developing and strengthening today.
South Ossetia has historically been aimed at developing fraternal relations with its strategic partner, the Russian Federation.
On August 26 this year, we will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the recognition of the state independence of the Republic of South Ossetia by the Russian Federation. We will be glad to see you in South Ossetia on this significant day,” the President said.
Alan Gagloev has also noted that South Ossetia is currently conducting research on the volume and quality of minerals in the Republic.
