There is a very strong international component in the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the independence of the Republic, Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, said this at the solemn meeting in Tskhinval dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the recognition of the Republic of South Ossetia by the Russian Federation.
According to Karasin, the courage and truth of the South Ossetian people defeated in August 2008 the ambitions of the collective West.
"Undoubtedly, the West was behind the aggressive intentions of the Georgian leadership, namely Saakashvili. Russia's help was a powerful factor, but the courage and resilience of the Ossetians proved that there are no equals for the people who decided to achieve truth and independence," he said.

More than 15 delegations from the State Duma of Russia, the Federation Council, North Ossetia, Nicaragua, Kabardino-Balkaria, Turkey, etc. are present at the anniversary celebrations in the Republic.
on August 26, 2008, the Russian Federation after Georgia's armed aggression against Tskhinval, recognized the sovereignty of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The leaders of Russia have repeatedly stated that the recognition of the independence of the republics reflects the existing realities and is not subject to revision. In addition to the Russian Federation, South Ossetia was recognized by Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru and Syria.
