A commemorative action in memory of the victims of the Beslan tragedy will take place on Sunday, at 12.30, on Cathedral Square near the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the capital of South Ossetia, the Presidential Executive Office told IA "Res".
Pupils of schools, teachers, as well as representatives of the leadership of the Republic will take part in the mourning action. Children annually bring drinking water to the memorial, which was so lacking during the terrible September days, and soft toys. 334 balloons will traditionally be released into the sky.
Funeral services will be held in all churches of the Republic. All mass cultural events for the period September 1-3 have been canceled in the Republic.
Since 2005, on the first of September, three-day mourning events dedicated to the memory of those killed in the terrorist attack in the Beslan school begin in North Ossetia. The events are held annually in South Ossetia.
On the days of mourning, people bring flowers to the ruins of the school in Beslan and to the memorial cemetery "City of Angels", where most of the dead hostages are buried. In 2005, a monument "The Tree of Sorrow" was opened there, and in 2006 - a memorial to the FSB special forces and rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations perished during the release of the hostages.
The destroyed school was not rebuilt. A memorial complex was opened on its territory. The school gym became its central part, around which a golden frame of metal supports was erected. The top of the frame resembles the outline of a wreath. The remaining parts of the school building were mothballed to prevent their further destruction. The plaques with the names of the fallen employees of Special Forces and the Ministry of Emergency Situations were installed at the school.
Since 2012, the Orthodox Church has been building in the school yard in the name of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia. It is being built on donations from residents of Ossetia and philanthropists from various regions of Russia. In 2019, it began the painting of the iconostasis .
Monuments to the victims of Beslan have also been erected in other settlements in Russia and in the world: in Vladikavkaz, St. Petersburg, in the center of Moscow, in the village of Kosta-Khetagurov in Karachay-Cherkessia, Florence (Italy) and others. President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev at the recent meeting with representatives of the organization "Mothers of Beslan" in Tskhinval said that in memory of the victims of the Beslan tragedy in South Ossetia, it was planned to erect a monument.
The new academic year in South Ossetia also starts on September 5th. The postponement of the date for several days became a sign of solidarity with the victims of the Beslan tragedy and their relatives.
