The work of the co-chairs of the Geneva discussions on security in Transcaucasia is to do everything possible for peace and progress to reign, the UN co-chair Cihan Sultanoglu has noted at the briefing in Tskhinval.

On Tuesday, a meeting of the EU, UN and OSCE co-chairs with the South Ossetian party was held in the capital of South Ossetia. Issues of preparation for the next round in Geneva, which will be held in early December, have been discussed.

Sultanoglu has noted that over the past 15 years, a number of issues on the agenda of the Geneva discussions have not been overcome.

“As it is known, the most key issue in the discussions is the signing of the agreement on the non-use of force and the return home of the displaced persons and refugees. I think these challenges have intensified in light of the recent events. However, this does not mean that we have lost hope. It is necessary to concentrate on practical measures to avoid the recurrence of similar border incidents in the future,” Sultanoglu said.

Also, according to her, it is necessary to work to make the life of the population in the border zone more predictable and safe.
