Merab Zasseev, Director of the National Museum of South Ossetia, expressed his support and sympathy to his Abkhaz colleagues in connection with the fire at the National Art Gallery.
“We have received the news of the fire in the National Art Gallery of the Republic of Abkhazia, which destroyed priceless exhibits, with a feeling of great regret.
This is a huge, irreparable loss for the entire Abkhaz people,” says the letter addressed to the director of the Abkhaz State Museum Arkady Dzhopua.
According to Zasseev, the gallery’s collection was not only one of the main cultural symbols of Sukhum and Abkhazia as a whole, but also reflected the long, complex historical path of the Republic, its heroic and tragic pages.
“Those who understand the importance of culture cannot help but feel pain from what has happened,” Zasseev has emphasized.
Director of the National Museum of South Ossetia also expressed words of support to the director of the National Art Gallery, Suram Mikhailovich Sakania.
“I really want to be there and provide all possible assistance in restoring the funds of the National Art Gallery. We are always ready to support our colleagues, fraternal Abkhazia, in pressing issues,” Zasseev said.
