From Tskhinval to India: Ossetian and foreign scientists gathered at the South Ossetian State University for the “Tibilov Readings”

The First International Scientific and Practical Conference “Tibilov Readings” started at the South Ossetian State University on Friday, dedicated to the birthday of one of the founders of the University, educator, scientist, and prominent public figure Alexander Tibilov.

The event brought together 96 representatives from five countries of the near and far abroad and seven regions, 18 universities and three colleges, linguists from Ossetia and Russia, as well as from India.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Akhsar Dzhioev, read out a welcoming address of President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev.

“Alexander Tibilov is one of the brightest representatives of the national intelligentsia, a talented scientist, creator, fighter for the freedom of his people. On the initiative of Alexander Tibilov, the first gymnasium in South Ossetia was opened in 1918, and later a pedagogical college; he was one of the founders of the Fidiuaeg magazine and the Khurzaerin newspaper,” the head of state has noted in his address.

Rector of the South Ossetian State University Vadim Tedeev noted the enormous importance of holding the first International Scientific and Practical Conference.

“I would like to note that South Ossetian State University is one of the oldest universities in the Caucasus. It was Alexander Tibilov who was the founder of the higher school of South Ossetia. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who organized today's conference. I would like to note the geography of today's scientific and practical conference. Here are our colleagues from Russia, North Ossetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, St. Petersburg, the Republic of Donbass, Abkhazia, Transnistria, India…” Tedeev has noted.

According to the Rector, South Ossetian State University attaches great importance to international activities; agreements are concluded with the Russian universities, with the universities in the republics of the former Soviet Union and far abroad.

“Today among our conference participants there are representatives of the Jawaharlal Nehru University of India. I would like us to sign a cooperation agreement with this university,” said the rector.

Rector of SCGMI Dzambolat Kambolov, Associate Professor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Secretary General of the Indian Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature Minu Bhatnagar, the KBSU professor Zuhra Kuchukova and others.

The plenary session was opened by Mira Tskhovrebova, Candidate of Philology, Professor of the Department of English Language at the South Ossetian State University, making a report on the topic “The language situation and legal status of the Ossetian language in the Republic of South Ossetia.” Further, Marta Balikoeva, Candidate of Education, head of the department of foreign languages of SCGMI spoke remotely - she told about the peculiarities of expressing the speech aspect of gratitude in the Ossetian language and so on.

The initiator of the conference was the Dean of Russian Philology, Journalism and Foreign Languages Irina Bekoeva.

The scientific conference "Tibilov Readings" is divided into three sections: "General problems of the preservation and development of minority languages and cultures in the era of general globalization", "Current problems of bilingualism and dialogue of cultures" and "Current problems of German philology".
