The employees of the South Ossetian State University Irina Bekoeva and Nikolai Bazaev took part in the International Conference on Socip- Humanitarian Sciences "History of Novorossiya" in Mariupol, the University's press service reports.
"On behalf of Rector of our University Vadim Tedeev, the dean of the faculty of Russian philology, journalism, foreign languages, head of the department of science, candidate of philology, associate professor of the English language department Irina Bekoeva and teacher of the department of History of Ossetia and Caucasian studies Nikolai Bazzayev took part in the conference," the press service reported.
As noted, the conference was planned in accordance with the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin following the meeting with participants of the III Congress of Young Scientists in 2023.
“From September 25 to 27, scientists from leading universities exchanged experiences and presented their research at the Kuindzhi Mariupol State University and the Priazovsky State Technical University. More than 150 people from Russia, South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Slovakia, and the Republic of Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina) took part in the conference,” the press service has noted.
Representatives of the South Ossetian State University presented a joint report “Russian-South Ossetian Relations in the Context of Integration Processes” in the main section of the conference “Outstanding People”, held at the Mariupol State University.
"During their speeches, South Ossetian scientists noted the importance of cooperation between Russia and South Ossetia in the fields of science and higher education, which promotes integration processes and the exchange of professional experience," the University reported, having noted that inter-university agreements and contracts concluded by the South Ossetian State University with educational and scientific institutions of Russia play a major role in creating a more flexible, diverse and dynamic educational environment, which is important for training qualified specialists in the context of globalization and a rapidly changing world.
The scientists of our university placed special emphasis on cooperation with universities in Donbass and Novorossiya, with a number of which the South Ossetian University was the first to sign cooperation agreements back in 2015." The press service gas added that conferences of this kind and scale can play an important role in developing educational programs, become a platform for developing new educational programs on history, on the problems of preserving historical memory, attract the attention of young people to the importance of studying history, use modern methods and technologies to make history more interesting and accessible.
“According to the organizers and participants of the forum, studying history can help overcome historical contradictions and conflicts. Understanding the past, knowledge of history helps young people understand the present and the future. Studying the mistakes of the past helps to avoid repeating them. The Scientific forums of this kind help to strengthen national identity, and a common knowledge of history unites people and forms a sense of national belonging,” the press service has emphasized.
According to the agency’s interlocutor, the conference will make a great contribution to the study of reliable, unfalsified history of new territories and will mark the beginning of a systematic interdisciplinary study of the region.
“It is important to remember that historical memory is not just a set of facts, but a complex process that requires critical analysis, frank dialogue and understanding of different points of view. The conference is intended to become an important step towards the formation and preservation of common historical memory, which will help young people better understand their world and form their own identity,”.
The conference was organized by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, the Mariupol State University, Russian State Humanitarian University, Russian Historical Society, and the History of the Fatherland Foundation.
Upon returning to South Ossetia, the conference participants met with the South Ossetian State University Rector Vadim Tedeev.
