Russia has emphasized the need to ensure lasting security for Abkhazia and South Ossetia - Russian Foreign Ministry

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mikhail Galuzin held a meeting with the co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in the Transcaucasia, the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

It was noted that the meeting was attended by the UN representative Cihan Sultanoglu and the special representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office for the South Caucasus Viorel Mosanu, as well as by representatives of the European Union.

“The exchange of views was held on topical issues on the GIDS agenda. The Russian party emphasized the need to increase collective efforts in the priority areas of work of this negotiating format with the emphasis on ensuring lasting security for Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” the message reads.

The Foreign Ministry has added that the meeting has also emphasized the importance of preventing provocations in the Georgian-Abkhaz and the Georgian-South Ossetian border areas, which could lead to escalation of tension.

The next round of the Moscow Railways is scheduled for early November this year.
