South Ossetia has joined the World Coordinating Council of the Russian Compatriots for the first time

South Ossetia has joined the new World Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots (WCCRC), approved during the Congress in Moscow, for the first time. The Coordinating Council of the Organization of Russian Compatriots (CCORS) in the republic informed the Res agency about this.

As clarified by the agency's interlocutor, the approval of the new composition of the WCCRC for the next 3-year period took place during the VIII World Congress of Compatriots Living Abroad.

"This is a significant event for the popularization and further recognition of the Republic of South Ossetia by the world community," the coordinating council jas emphasized.

South Ossetia is represented in the World Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots by the chairperson of the Republic's CCORS, Natalya Zhuikova.

The congress under the slogan "Together with Russia" is being held for the eighth time, bringing together about 400 leaders and activists of the Russian community from 103 countries.

The opening ceremony of the congress was attended by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Chairperson of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus', as well as the heads of central and regional government bodies, non-governmental structures, representatives of traditional religions, scientists and representatives of the Russian media.
