The early presidential elections in Abkhazia were held calmly and without any visible violations, - the head of the delegation, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-parliamentary Relations Zaza Driaev summed up the work of the parliamentary delegation of South Ossetia as observers.
As reported by the press service of the legislative body, the delegation also included the Chairman of the Committee on Industry, Construction, Communications and Natural Resources Ivan Slanov and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Legislation, Legality and Local Self-Government Alan Gagloev as international observers at the early presidential elections in Abkhazia.
"Our delegation visited over 15 polling stations. We were monitoring the voting process not only in Sukhum, but also beyond it - in various settlements, villages and did not reveal any violations. The turnout was high, people went to the elections as if to a holiday,” Driaev said.
According to the parliamentarian, during the trip, meetings were held with Speaker of the Abkhazian Parliament Lasha Ashuba and Chairman of the Central Election Commission Dmitry Marshan.
During the trip, the parliamentarians also laid flowers at the Memorial to those killed in the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia 1992-1993 in the Park of Glory in Sukhum.
The early presidential elections in Abkhazia were held on February 15. Based on the election results, it was decided to hold a second round, since none of the candidates received more than 50% of the votes.
The second round of elections will be held on March 1. Badra Gunba and Adgur Ardzinba will take part in it.
