Among the bloody crimes committed by the Georgian fascist regimes in different years as a result of the policy of genocide of the Ossetian people, the Zar tragedy is particular cruel. This is stated in a statement by the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the Zar massacre.

The department has reminded that on May 20, 1992, on the Zar "road of life", the Georgian armed forces ambushed a motorcade of peaceful Ossetian citizens who were trying to escape from the blockaded Tskhinval and inhumanly shot them in pointblank.

The victims of this barbaric atrocity are 33 people - innocent children, women and old people who were killed for the sole reason that they were Ossetians.

The Foreign Ministry has emphasized that along with other monstrous crimes against humanity - mass murders of civilians known in the world history, the Zar massacre has no statute of limitations and cannot be forgotten.

"All these years, the Ossetian people have been living with the pain of this tragedy, not forgetting for a minute the horrors committed against the peaceful citizens. Despite the fact that the Zar tragedy has not yet received a proper political and legal assessment in the international arena, and the criminals have not been brought to justice, residents of South Ossetia do not lose hope that sooner or later the perpetrators will be punished, justice will be restored, and justice will prevail," the statement reads.

The department noted that in modern conditions, when there are attempts to hush up, distort the facts and rewrite history, the Ossetian people, carefully keeping in their hearts the terrible days of May 1992, are building their future, relying on their historical memory, in order to prevent the repetition of such bloody tragedies.
