The Embassy of South Ossetia in Russia took part in the opening ceremony of the exhibition "The Last Battle of World War II", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory of Soviet troops over the militaristic Japan.

The invitation to the event was sent to the diplomatic department by the leadership of the Russian Historical Society and the Museum of Contemporary History.

The exposition at the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia tells about the Manchurian strategic offensive operation, the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk offensive operation, the liberation of China and Korea.

Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service and Chairman of the Russian Historical Society Sergei Naryshkin said in his speech at the ceremony that the Second World War was started by the aggression of the so-called Axis countries — militaristic Japan in the Far East and Nazi Germany in Europe.

“I would like to emphasize that the Second World War began in the Far East, long before the Anschluss of Austria, long before the barbaric division of Czechoslovakia as a result of a criminal conspiracy of the Western powers, long before the invasion of Hitler’s Wehrmacht into Poland,” he said.

Naryshkin has noted that the Soviet Union was the first or one of the first to enter the fight against Japanese militarism and German Nazism.

According to him, it was the Soviet Union that dealt the final and decisive blow to the aggressor in the Far East.

As pointed out by Naryshkin, the World War II drew more than 60 countries into its orbit and became the largest and most destructive in the history of mankind, "its consequence was fundamental geopolitical changes that shaped the contours of the current world."

"The exhibition that we are opening today is a tribute to the memory of our heroes, soldiers and officers of the Red Army, many of whom gave their lives for the liberation of South Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands, the territories of Northeast China and Korea from the occupiers. Their feat, their military feat will forever enter the military annals of our great Fatherland and will be the example of courage, fortitude and bravery," he has concluded.
